Wigtonian Blog update

Development of the new website for wigtonian.org.uk is well underway and I hope to publish the site by the Spring of 2016.

The original site has been around for quite a few years now and was developed using Microsoft Front Page – a program no longer supported by Microsoft nor indeed many web hosts.  It was built using frames which, while ok at the time, have more or less vanished from web design due to poor accessibility.

I am now using software called Xara Web Designer which enables me to use more advanced web features without having to learn all the coding for them. It allows me to focus more on the content, rather than design, whilst making sure the site maintains a consistent theme throughout.

What I am hoping to develop is a menu driven site which groups together appropriate content and makes things easier to find. Over the years new content was added as it arrived simply by creating a new web page and menu item which led to a large unweildly site that by todays standards is looking rather old fashioned.

Whilst I will be losing some of the more gimicky elements the site will be much more accessible and should display reasonably well on mobile devices and tablets – devices unimagined when I first created it.

Now would be an excellent time to include any new material such as photos and documents that people have not to date sent it.  So if you have unearthed something please get in touch with me via the existing site wigtonian.org.uk
